NACU Welcomes Linfield University

April 5

Oregon-based Linfield University has joined the New American Colleges and Universities (NACU) consortium. NACU is a trusted network of private, comprehensive colleges and universities that brings together progressive thinkers and innovative agents of change across higher education to share ideas and create unique opportunities for its campuses.

“NACU includes a collection of private institutions that purposefully integrate the liberal arts, professional preparation and civic engagement. Its raison d’être sounds an awful lot like Linfield’s mission to advance learning, life and community through the teaching of, among other things, both theoretical and practical knowledge,” Linfield President Miles K. Davis said. “NACU is a natural fit for Linfield, offering new opportunities to benchmark and collaborate with colleagues at like-minded colleges and universities across the country.”

Founded in 1858, Linfield University enrolls nearly 2,000 students at its McMinnville and Portland, Oregon, campuses. Linfield connects the traditional liberal arts with practical education through collaborative, service and experiential learning opportunities. It is nationally recognized for its outstanding academic programs, distinctive international emphasis and commitment to inclusion and diversity. Thirty-two percent of Linfield students are first-generation college students, and more than one-third are U.S. students of color.

“NACU is thrilled to have Linfield University join our trusted network and contribute to the strategic counsel that enables our campuses to strengthen one another, something especially valuable over the last year and even more so as we emerge from the pandemic,” said Sean Creighton, president of NACU.

NACU campuses honor the legacy of Ernest Boyer who called for higher education and scholarship to be a service to society. To accomplish this, NACU campuses connect students with their communities to ensure they can apply their knowledge beyond the classroom and understand their roles as responsible global citizens.
