This report calculates and plots ROI ratio for each academic year for selected institutions using the following calculation:
ROI = (Investment Revenue – Investment Cost) / Investment Cost
The revenue component of the ratio uses net price tuition, and the cost component uses instructional expense per FTE.
The tool is intended for comparing campus data, identifying trends, and planning purposes. The research was supported in part by the TIAA Institute and is connected to a larger project that collects and analyzes direct and indirect costs for the delivery of instruction.
